Snap Crackle Pop

I will say this. Getting to Granite Benchmark wasn’t horrible. Just take the dirt road that’s next to the “You’re Leaving Angeles Forest” sign. Following it up until you see a locked gate on your right. That’s the road you will hike down… or up. The hike wasn’t too bad. Half a mile in half a mile out with some good size hills.

As for the activation today was one of those activations where I should have just stayed home. You see Granite Benchmark has powerlines running right next to it. Well seeing that others had activated before I thought I would give it a go. How bad could it be?

Nightmare

Nightmare

From the minute I fired up 20 meters I knew this was going to be bad. The reason is I had as much noise on that summit as I do at my home QTH.

I did manage to snag one contact on 20 meters. Nothing else though.
So I decided to drop down to 40 meters as the noise floor was a bit lower there, not by much but there was hope. I manage to squeeze out 3 more contacts on 40 and decided to call it a morning as the sun was up and it was suppossed to hit 100 today.
